About the Event

The Tankas lived in rivers and seas and took boats as their rooms. They call their sea life "making the sea", but in the opinion of Liu Li, these behaviors are not just making a living, but providing opportunities for intellectual, moral, social and spiritual development. In this activity, Ms. Liu Li will start from her observation and research in Xingang Village, Hainan Island for many years, introduce the unique construction of Tankas living on the sea in body and space, and understand the cultural awareness of people living on the water in production and life from such maritime practice.
The original meaning of INSULAiRE is islanders. As a designer brand, INSULAiRE always makes clothes that can accompany modern life for a long time based on islanders' living tradition and marine culture, combined with the old traditional craft and modern clothing technology with national characteristics. INSULAiRE explores the relationship between man and nature in clothing, as well as the connection between the past and the present. In S/S 2022, INSULAiRE came to the sea from the island, under the name of "South China Sea Road", and through the redesign of the traditional clothing silhouette and wearing habits of the Dans, it paid tribute to the freedom, optimism and fearlessness of the Dans who have been paddling and rowing in fishing boats for many years, living with water.
The documentary "INSULAiRE SS2022" will be shown on the talk site, and designer Yang Zhikai will be invited to share about the current living situation of the Dans, clothing culture and their brand's fashion design based on honoring the Dans and Hainan culture. In addition, in the "Maritime Parlor", we will also display the sample clothes, national fabrics, local patterns, Dan Jia Geng Road thin Headcloth, Inspiration Sketch Book, ocean plastic buttons, partridge tea and other materials from INSULAiRE.
