About the Event

Before presenting the first solo exhibition of the Belgian artist Francis Alÿs in China, the Rockbund Art Museum is proud to invite Yuko Hasegawa, Curator of this exhibition, and Cuauhtémoc Medina, Chief Curator of the 12th Shanghai Biennale, to discuss the artistic creation of Francis Alÿs.

Reviewing their collaborations with the artist, the two speakers will share their insights on how Francis Alÿs incorporates human bodies in his creations. Illustrating through vivid fables, the artist sets forth a thorough contemplation on physical labor and time consumption. Curator Yuko Hasegawa will delineate her field research with Francis Alÿs on China’s northern Inner Mongolia region in 2017, underscored by their thoughts on territories and boundaries occurs throughout. While Cuauhtémoc Medina, a long-term collaborator of Francis Alÿs, will unveil the two’s past projects they have worked on in Mexico.
