Introduction
Mathieu Borysevicz will talk about his book Learning from Hangzhou. This bi-lingual (English/Chinese) publication traces the semiotics of urbanization in Hangzhou, China from 2003 through 2008 with over 3000 stunning images, interviews, and incisive texts.
Learning from Hangzhou is indicative of the rapid physical evolution and concurrent social transformation that is taking place throughout China; it also provides lessons for a globalizing world and its increasingly frivolous commoditization of public space.
