What is publicness? This is a crucial question for contemporary art. For decades, public art has been equated to urban sculptures. But publicness should not be defined by place; it needs to be understood as ways in which open and critical discussions can be fostered. In this talk, Zheng Bo will discuss Paola Pivi's artwork “Share, but it’s not fair”, specifically commissioned for this exhibition, and Chinese artist Xiong Wenyun's work Moving Rainbow (1998-2001), showing how these two artists connected colors and environmental issues in their pursuit of publicness.
