Hu Xiangqian’s works are not elaborately thought out, nor do they deal with astonishing content — there are only his sudden inspirations. For the most part, his medium of choice is performance art — the better to achieve a more direct bodily and perceptive experience; some of what he does perhaps targets not the audience but rather the performer himself. As he himself says, “I want to understand my mind through art.”

胡向前的创作没有精密的构思，也没有骇人听闻的内容 ── 只有他突然产生的念头。他的艺术多以行为作媒介，为了获得更直接的身体和感知的经验；这些作为最重要的对象可能不是观众而不是行为者本身，如他所言：“我想通过艺术了解自己的思维。”
