An Odyssey is a 15 hour guided tour of some of the greatest films every made. The series was made over five years and across six continents, covering twelve decades and over a thousand films. Based on Mark Cousin’s award-winning book of the same name, the film explores the story of cinematic innovation and how film-makers have been influenced by the historic events of their times and by each other. It covers film’s major events: from the first frames of silent cinema, to the emergence of Hollywood and the artistic evolution of film in Russia, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Britain, Scandinavia and the USA.

《电影史话》由英国电影评论家、纪录片导演马克•卡曾斯根据自己撰写的同名书拍摄而成。本片摄制期长达5年，跨越六大洲，展现了近120年的世界电影史及近千部电影作品。影片用电影化的方式讲述电影史，探索电影人的创作如何被特定历史事件影响，而电影人之间又是怎样互相启发。讲述从电影诞生到好莱坞以及明星系统的出现，再转向欧洲、亚洲等地区的艺术电影发展，并与电影人探讨面对数字时代的电影创作。本片于2011年在多伦多电影节世界首映，今年3月刚刚在香港电影节举行亚洲首映。
