“Contemporary artists use and interchange different forms of art, exploring new materials and media from moving image to painting, from installation to performance, from sculpture to architectural display, breaking our conventional ideas of art media. But then what art can be?

If today the artists are cultivating different art practices, it is not only to talk about multi-media or cross disciplines. Fundamentally, they ask about our own positions and responsibilities as a spectator of making the image, whenever we watch the TV or use our phone, whenever we enter an architecture or visit an art exhibition, whenever we watch a documentary or a fiction movie, whenever we make a portrait of ourselves or document other people, whenever we live into a city or travel into different places in the world. In this exhibition, dynamics of potential combinations and complexities can be traced through different works.”--Larys Frogier, Director of Rockbund Art Museum and Co-curator of “Walking on the Fade Out Lines”

In the first part of this campus event, Chen Dan visits the Senior High School Affiliated to Shanghai Institute of Visual Art High School to introduce the exhibition concepts to the students and shares stories of the artists. Following the presentation and discussion, Hsieh Feng-Rong, Co-curator of “Walking on the Fade Out Lines”, leads the students to walk through the exhibition and take questions.

“当代艺术家会对不同的艺术形式进行运用与互换，探索从运动影像到绘画、从装置到行为、从雕塑到建筑展示，无不冲击着我们对艺术媒介的陈旧观念。那么，艺术可以是什么呢？

如果说今天的艺术家是在酝酿新的艺术实践方式，那么涉及到的不只是多媒体或跨学科。他们从根本上探问的是，我们作为观众，在影像生产中的位置和责任：无论我们是在看电视还是使用手机，在进入一座建筑还是去看一场艺术展览，观看一部纪录片还是虚构故事片，在创作我们自己的肖像还是纪录他人，在一座城市里生活还是前往这世界的其他地方。在这场展览里，不同的作品之间可以看到潜在的组合和复杂性的联动。”——拉瑞斯•弗洛乔，上海外滩美术馆馆长

本次校园活动第一部分我们走进校园，与同学们讨论展览主题理念，分享关于展览和艺术家的故事；第二部分，展览策展人之一谢丰嵘为前来美术馆的学生们进行导览，并回答同学们关于展览、美术馆和策展人角色等方面的问题。

Chen Dan is the Education Manager of Rockbund Art Museum with a master’s degree in interpreting from Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation at Shanghai International Studies University.

Hsieh Feng-Rong is the Senior Curator and founding staff member of Rockbund Art Museum; he joined Rockbund Art Museum in 2009 during its preparatory stage. He was the coordinator of the renovation process and implemented the institutional structure of the museum. He has been working with many internationally renowned artists, including Cai Guoqiang, Zeng Fanzhi, Zhang Huan, Michael Lin, Duan Jianyu, Hu Xiaoyuan, Xu Bing, Bharti Kher, Ugo Rondinone, Mark Bradford, Chen Zhen and Philippe Parreno. In 2013, he got involved in founding the first HUGO BOSS ASIA ART award and was also the project manager for the award. Recent exhibitions curated by Hsieh include: “Tell Me a Story: Locality and Narrative” (co-curated with Amy Cheng, 2016, Shanghai), "RAM HIGHLIGHT 2017: DISPLACE" (curatorial team, 2017, Shanghai), "Walking on the Fade out Lines"(co-curated with Larys Frogier, 2018, Shanghai), “Tell Me a Story: Locality and Narrative” (co-curated with Amy Cheng, 2018, Turin).

陈丹，上海外国语大学高级翻译学院英语口译硕士，上海外滩美术馆教育主管。

谢丰嵘， 现任上海外滩美术馆资深策展人。2009年加入上海外滩美术馆进行筹备开馆工作，担任场馆改造工程协调工作，同时与美术馆团队建立各项制度。至今，曾为国内外多位知名艺术家制作展览，包括蔡国强、曾梵志、张洹、林明弘、段建宇、胡晓媛、徐冰、巴尔提•卡尔、乌戈•罗迪纳、马克•布拉德福德、陈箴、菲利普•帕雷诺等。2013年参与规划首届HUGO BOSS亚洲艺术家大奖，并为项目经理。近年共同策划的展览：“告诉我一个故事：地方性与叙事”（2016年，上海）、RAM HIGHLIGHT 2017：错置（2017年，上海）、“行将消退——作品来自山德雷托•雷•雷包登戈收藏”（2018年，上海）、“告诉我一个故事：地方性与叙事”（2016年，都灵）。
