Under the social context nowadays where we are pursuing rationality, high-efficiency, abundance and prosperity, the concept of “dépense” proposed by Georges Bataille seems quite unique. Then what does it mean? What does this notion imply? How it is constructed within Bataille’s system? And will this “non-productive consumption” make our livelihood unsustainable?

We are honored to invite to this talk Yang Wei, Associate Professor at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Second Military Medical University, who will share how Bataille defines and distinguishes the productive consumption from a non-productive one in human activities from the perspectives of philosophy and anthropology. He will also talk about how this way of thinking may inspire our re-examination in the significance of things and the existence of human beings in today’s China.

在人们乐于追求理性、高效和丰裕富足的背景下，乔治·巴塔耶的“消耗”(la dépense)概念显得独特而又耐人寻味。那么，何谓“消耗”，如何把握这个概念的由来和含义？“消耗”何以成立，无关乎生产的纯粹消耗会让我们的生存难以为继吗？

本次我们有幸邀请到第二军医大学人文社科部副教授杨威，与大家分享巴塔耶是如何从哲学和人类学两个方面出发，定义并区分人类活动中的生产性消费与非生产性消耗；同时在当下的中国，该思想有可能为我们重新审视物的意义和人的生存提供什么样的启发。

杨威，第二军医大学人文社科部副教授，华东师范大学哲学系博士后。1999年至2006年就读于南京政治学院。获哲学学士、硕士学位：2009年至2012年就读于复旦大学哲学学院，获哲学博士；2013年至2014年赴美国乔治城大学哲学系访学。先后在《哲学动态》、《马克思主义与现实》、《思想教育研究》等期刊发表学术论文40余篇。上海市哲学学会理事，中国当代国外马克思主义研究会会员。
