About the Screening

The exhibition features three Inuit artists, whose works express the Inuit beliefs and visual culture, as well as their life being part of a whole natural environment. Among the three artists, Tim Pitsiulak is both an artist and hunter. His works represent wildlife such as sea lions, whales, and elk, etc.

The Inuit’s perception of human, animals and wildlife is represented as a whole environment. Seal hunting, an important part of traditional Inuit's life, has been a controversial topic. But now, with their humor and righteousness, the new generation of Inuit is making a new sound to the world via social media, showing the efforts that Inuit has made for sustainable development.

Angry Inuk is a 2016 Canadian feature-length documentary film written and directed by Alethea Arnaquq-Baril that defends the Inuit seal hunt, as the hunt is a vital means for Inuit peoples to sustain themselves. Subjects in Angry Inuk include Arnaquq-Baril herself as well as Aaju Peter, an Inuit seal hunt advocate, lawyer and seal fur clothing designer who depends on the sealskins for her livelihood. Partially shot in the filmmaker's home community of Iqaluit, as well as Kimmirut and Pangnirtung, where seal hunting is essential for survival, the film follows Peter and other Inuit to Europe in an effort to have the EU Ban on Seal Products overturned.
