"Ten Years Thailand",an anthology of shorts with a common theme, allegorizes the 'present' about to come rather than an imagined future. In this work, the idea of time in the imagined 'future' does not stand alone in the period unarrived, but mingles with the 'past' and the 'present'. The King of Thailand, Thai armed forces, and the Oppositions have been fighting for Thailand's regime in the past two decades. In the meantime, the gap between urban and rural areas goes deeper along the futuristic modernization process in the Global South. By constructing a cognition towards the future of Thailand, this film builds its imagination on the urban scenario of high-density and high technologies and accuses the invasion of coup d'etat into our daily life.

The work consists of four independent episodes that present four relationships of form and content accordingly-military dictatorship & arts, feline allegory & state of exception, lighting installation & separation of powers, technological devices & daily life. These juxtapositions respond to the abnormalities and norms.

The second and third dystopian episodes bring us to the abnormalities of life. Ethnic differences and conflicts in the second episode reflect the 'state of exception' that Agamben argues. They are spread within spaces such as houses, streets, and the woods, becoming a new norm of daily life. The third episode borrows contemporary art installation, animation, and multi-media methods to present the absolute suppression of power in the future, trying to put surreal illusions and ceremonial into the narrative of future's norms.

The first and last episodes are linked up with everyday life. Apichatpong keeps the elements of sleep and machine and introduces technologies into daily life. Going with the flow of time, the future is turned into the present through imitation.

This lecture will be given along the narrative of Thailand's politics, modernization, and imagination of its future, to explore the relationship between the norms and the abnormalities.

《十年泰国》作为命题组合电影,寓言的并不是虚构的未来,而是即将发生的“现在”。在此,虚构的未来时间并不单独存在于“未来”,“未来”是“过去”与“现在”萦绕不散的幽灵。近二十年,泰国的政权一直在国王、军人与民众反对派中厮杀摇摆,全球南方未来主义式的现代化也令城乡割裂加深。未来的泰国即是对当前密集高楼、电子科技的进一步想象,也是对军事政变侵入日常生活的控诉。

四则独立短片由军事独裁-艺术、猫族寓言-例外状态、灯管装置-权力分配、科技仪器-日常生活这四对形式与内容的关系构成,分别指向了反常与日常的状态。

反乌托邦式的第二则与第三则将场景至于反常生活中。前者的族群差异斗争反映了阿甘本所反对的“例外状态”,并且它成为日常生活,弥漫在房屋、街道、树林的空间中。第三则以当代艺术的装置、动画、多媒体方式呈现未来权力的绝对压制,将非真实的迷幻、仪式讲述为未来的日常。

本片首尾两部则由日常生活的流动串起。阿彼察邦延续睡眠与机器的元素,将科技融入日常,跟随缓慢的时间流动将未来模拟为现在。

此次影评会以泰国的日常政治、现代化建设与未来展望为线索,探讨此在的反常与日常的关系。
