About the Event

Knitting, bones, extremes, labor, human bodies…

All these elements are the ever-present themes, languages and means of expression of the artist Lin Tianmiao’s creations and also our keys to her art world. How should we viewers understand Lin’s skepticism about the “female art” and even rebellion against it? Does the artist intend to use the above elements to deliver much more powerful messages beyond the gender paradox?

We are honored to invite the art critic Pi Li to introduce the background to the development of Chinese female art and further interpret Lin’s art languages in her artworks in this talk, with a view to inspiring the audience to explore and understand Lin’s creations from diverse angles. Pi will also talk about how the artist challenges the hierarchy of materials and other widely-accepted notions in the contemporary art community through use of “technical materials” which are considered inferior in comparison with the so-called “elite materials.”
