Synopsis:
Having left their poor country lives for their parents, wives and children, the miners go hundreds of metres underground every day to mine for coal. They don’t know whether they will live to see another day, but they continue to search for hope in the realms of darkness.
It’s as if the director had finished the film in anger. One hardly sees the mines throughout the film. Almost all encounters seem to be by chance, but all encounters become the subject of the camera’s lense. The director asks people how much they earn, about their working conditions, how long they work for, and a variety of other sharp questions. Sometimes there are no questions, and the director lets people talk for themselves. The highlight of the film is, undoubtedly, the fact that it reveals “the other side of the coin” of China’s Reform and Opening Up Policy, through a sketch of the lives of Chinese miners.

影片简介：
他们为了父母，妻儿的生活每天深入到几百米深的地下去采煤
他们不知道自己是否能够拥有明天？黑暗中他们仍寻找着希望
导演似乎是在愤怒中完成此片，影片几乎看不到煤矿的影子。摄像机几乎是随意地邂逅，并将邂逅的对象成为镜头的对象。导演问人们关于工资，关于井下条件，关于工作时间，一系列尖锐的问题，有时候他则什么都不问，只是让人们随意地说。此片的最大亮点，无疑在于通过速写矿工的生活境况，揭示了处于改革开放时期的中国“硬币的另一面”。
