“Dream Stranded: Wandering Southeast Asia” is the first workshop for Tan Jing’s exhibition Inlet of Arid Dreams. It reconsiders what a returned overseas Chinese family is. When wandering and separation become our common context, will it carve out a space within the geographical boundary that divides our identities, and become the reason for us to meet, be close, and illuminate each other?
On the day of the event, Feili played and sang Angin Pujaan Hujan, an Indonesian song about longing composed by Payung Teduh, which is one of the most important independent folk bands in Indonesia in the past ten years. Its style is based on Kroncong music, a classic Indonesian pop music style combining local cultures with what was brought over by Portuguese sailors during the colonial period.
Xu Zhenhua is an international news reporter who has been paying attention to Southeast Asia for a long time and gave a lecture focusing on "Labor Rights on Isolated Islands ", "Sea Routes for Gold Rush and Escape", "Dislocate Indonesia, Dislocate Southeast" and "Realizing the Islands". Through the stories of returned overseas Chinese elderlies, we discussed the profound thoughts they bring us about people, mobility, family, and ways of moving forward.
Combining his own personal and family experiences with the artist Tan Jing, Xu Zhenhua read the poems he wrote about returned overseas Chinese families and talked about the significance of looking back, commemorating, retelling, and healing when facing these sufferings and difficulties. Looking back at the process of Chinese immigration to Thailand, Indonesia, and other places over the past century or so, Xu asks: “What do borders, politics, economy, documents, ideologies, dreams and livelihoods mean to Chinese immigrants?”

Xu Zhenhua is an international news reporter with a long-term focus on Southeast Asia. He was born in Shenzhen, Guangdong. He was raised by his grandparents who came from Medan, Indonesia, and were originally from Zhangzhou, southern Fujian. He hopes to be an apprentice in anthropology, South China, and the Malay world.

“酣梦搁浅：漂泊的东南亚”作为谭婧的展览“旱梦滩”的公共项目第一期，旨在重新思考什么是归侨家庭？当漂泊和离散成为我们的共同语境，它是否也为划分彼此身份的地缘界线间留出一块空地，成为彼此相遇、靠近、照亮的原因。
活动当天由菲力弹唱 Angin Pujaan Hujan（“风崇拜雨”，原唱：Payung Teduh）。这是一首讲述思念的印尼语歌曲，由印尼近十年最为重要的独立民谣乐团之一Payung Teduh创作，其风格基于Kroncong音乐，是一种由殖民时期的葡萄牙水手带过来而和本土文化结合而成的印尼经典流行音乐小调风格。
长期关注东南亚的国际新闻记者许振华围绕“劳权孤岛”、“淘金与逃离之海路”、“错位印尼，错位东南”、“体认群岛”展开讲座。并通过归侨老人的故事，讨论其带给我们关于人、流动、家庭、向前进等的深刻思考。许振华结合自身与艺术家谭婧的个人及家庭经验；阅读他写过的关于归侨家庭的诗歌，一起谈论面对这些苦难和困难时，回望、纪念、复述、疗愈的意义何在。并回望过去一个多世纪的涉及到泰国、印尼等地的华人移民历程，以回应边界、国境线、政治、经济、证件、意识形态、理想、生计等因素对华人移民意味着什么。
嘉宾介绍：
长期关注东南亚的国际新闻记者许振华生于广东深圳，与来自印尼棉兰、祖籍闽南漳州的祖父母朝夕相处、受其养育。他希望自己一直是人类学学徒、华南的学徒、马来世界学徒。
