彭祖强个展“一些省略、静默和不透明的声音”将带来常驻北京的音乐人赵丛和朱文博呈现的展览闭幕音乐现场。
赵丛和朱文博是展览全新委任作品《四散》的音乐设计,其中赵丛与艺术家彭祖强的合作从另一件旧作《青园》(2022)开始。《四散》回应了在1960至80年代中国农村放映的8.75毫米特殊规格胶片,8.75毫米的放映拷贝由35毫米现成电影胶片转印而成,通过被缩印成为四分之一的窄幅胶片,影像通过不需要摄影机的方式持续流转。 在为作品构思声音质感时,赵丛和朱文博同样使用到四轨磁带录音机来进行音影联动,“四分之一”成为了作品音乐设计的出发点。
《四散》的声音有很大一部分来自于作品所采样的电影胶片光学声音,这与赵丛和朱文博的声音实践也有异曲同工之妙——二人使用磁带机的方式跳脱出常规的播放功能,更强调磁带机的物理属性。声音经过了四轨机的调变发生了微妙的改变,与被“切成”四分之一宽度的胶片有了一种对话,产生了非常规使用的意外产物。
赵丛和朱文博的即兴表演将使用四轨机和一些影片中出现的设备,为“一些省略、静默和不透明的声音”画上句号,《四散》也将会在表演时段从一件影像装置作品化为音乐场域。演出后,两位艺术家将进行创作分享和进行问答。
To mark the closing of Peng Zuqiang’s solo exhibition Short-term Histories, Rockbund Art Museum is pleased to an announce a closing performance from the Beijing-based musicians Zhao Cong and Zhu Wenbo, followed by a conversation with the two musicians and the exhibition's curator, Sam Shiyi Qian. Zhao and Zhu were the sound designers for Peng's Afternoon Hearsay (2025), a newly commissioned video installation from RAM, and in particular, Zhao's collaboration with the artist stretches back to his earlier work, Cyan Garden (2022).
Afternoon Hearsay responds to the 8.75mm film format—a special gauge used for screenings in rural China from the 1960s to 1980s—which were transferred from existing 35mm film stock. By transferring the film into a format one-quarter of its original width, its images can circulate without the need for a camera. As a reference to this technical process, in Afternoon Hearsay, Zhao and Zhu used a four-track tape recorder to create a synergy between sound and image, with “one-quarter” serving as a conceptual anchor for the work's sound design.
Zhao and Zhu's improvised performance will utilize the four-track machine and those devices featured in Afternoon Hearsay to bring Short-term Histories to a close. In turn, Afternoon Hearsay will transform from a video installation into a dynamic, live musical space.
