Building on the success of its bi-annual collaboration, HUGO BOSS is delighted to continue its partnership with the Rockbund Art Museum to launch the 2019 edition of the HUGO BOSS ASIA ART Award for Emerging Asian Artists. The Award has been at the forefront in supporting contemporary Asian artists as a platform to offer visibility and critical discussion into their work.
From September 13 to September 22, 2019, Rockbund Art Museum will host its special annual program RAM HIGHLIGHT 2019: Before the Whistle Blows, curated by Hsieh Feng-Rong, Senior Curator of the Rockbund Art Museum. The program comprise of multiple art forms such as video, photography, 360-degree virtual reality installations, song and dance performances, chanting rituals, durational performances, and a bar for chatting.

The Rockbund Art Museum is very pleased to present the first institutional solo exhibition in China by the renowned German artist Tobias Rehberger. “If you don’t use your eyes to see, you will use them to cry” will be on display from 23 March to 26 May, 2019. Rehberger’s multifaceted work has been instrumental to expanding the possibilities of sculpture, spanning a diverse range of fields that include design, architecture, and conceptual art.

We have entered the age of digital information overload but our understandings of the others have been gradually dictated by media façades composed of fragmented images and discourses. In order to see through the mirage of media façades, ”Tell Me a Story: Locality and Narrative” aims to bring the spectators to approach the others as close as possible, listening to the others speaking for themselves. The exhibition first realized at RAM in 2016. In 2018, The exhibition relocates to Turin, Italy.
From Sep 29 to Oct 4, 2018, the annual special project RAM HIGHLIGHT 2018: “Is It My Body?” will be launched at the Rockbund Art Museum (RAM) Shanghai. RAM Shanghai will challenge the boundaries of conventional exhibitions and invite the public to participate and interact with the works. Visitors will be able to enter a multi-dimensional art space blending exhibition, concert, performances, workshops, lectures, and other experiences together.
Rockbund Art Museum will proudly host Systems, the first solo thematic exhibition in Shanghai by the artist Lin Tianmiao, curated by Alexandra Munroe. The artist considers the exhibition to be a site-specific project that explores four key concepts: “individual consciousness”, “collective consciousness”, “public consciousness”, and “ultimate consciousness”. With each concept corresponding to a floor in the museum, going from the second floor of the museum all the way to the sixth floor .

HUGO BOSS ASIA ART: Award for Emerging Asian Artists opened early today at Rockbund Art Museum (RAM) in Shanghai, presenting artworks by the four finalist artists: Li Ming (China), Tao Hui (China), Yu Ji (China), Robert Zhao Renhui (Singapore). This exhibition is dedicated to the late Xavier Douroux whose influence on Parreno's career cannot be overstated. “Tell Me A Story” is a group exhibition presented by Rockbund Art Museum. The exhibition features 11 artworks by artists from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. Through re-investigating the history, culture and heritage of different locations in East and Southeast Asia, the artists explore, as well as construct, narratives relating to the effects of globalization on local Asian communities.

This May, Rockbund Art Museum (RAM) will celebrate its 5th anniversary with an ambitious new exhibition “Chen Zhen: Without going to New York and Paris, life could be internationalised,” which will run from May 30 – October 7, 2015. RAM is pleased to present the first major museum exhibition in Asia of the celebrated Los Angeles-based artist Mark Bradford. Commissioned specifically for this presentation, three monumental collage paintings will fill each of the gallery floors of the museum. These exuberant new works titled The Tears of a Tree, Falling Horses and Lazy Mountain are inspired by the artist’s visits to Shanghai and what he found to be the dynamic melding of disparate cultures, economies and functions in the city.
Rockbund Art Museum is thrilled to introduce the very first exhibition in China of the internationally acclaimed artist Ugo Rondinone, born in 1964 in Brunnen, Switzerland, and living in New York since 1997. Ugo Rondinone’s oeuvre takes up a unique position in the contemporary art scene and his contribution in revisiting the codes and the histories of the visual arts has been exceptional.
The exhibition aims to look at traditional media from a different angle. It sets out to present artistic positions using traditional media and procedures, such as divination, the game, gambling and traditional strategies— for instance, 'advance through retreat'— in order to develop autonomous languages that utter positions of resistance to the assimilating tendency and the power structures generated and maintained by the lingua franca.
Contemporary painter and sculptor Bharti Kher has been engaged with the varying art historical traditions of the readymade, minimalism and abstraction (through repeated gestures and forms), as well as mythology and narrativity for the past twenty years. This fifteen-year survey of Kher’s practice from the early years of the 21st century through to the present constitutes a synthesized overview into a complex and evolving worldview and the artist’s first major solo exhibition in Asia.

Assembling numerous works originating from the contemporary collection of the Chalcography department in the Louvre as well as major pieces commissioned specially for the show or else stemming from other collections, the exhibition proposes a journey that links up powerful visual and textual constructions in international contemporary art.
A Potent Force brings together the work of two strongly individual Chinese artists, Duan Jianyu and Hu Xiaoyuan, both of whom happen to be female. The distinct sensibilities that they each bring to their art are an amalgam of their respective life experiences, of the incidental features of their personal background and the environs in which they grew up.
Time Traveler hopes to evoke visually spatial memories of the era of the Shanghai Museum, presenting the overlap of two times and spaces — a natural history and culture muse of the 1930s and a contemporary art museum of 2012, reuniting the two spaces that stand at either end of this temporal axis. All the artists participating in this exhibition have in the past or are still currently working with classical material, dead forms and historical incidents as their mode of expression in their art.
