HBAA Performance + Talk | HAO Jingban x Ichiro KATAOKA: Forsaken Landscapes 2019

In this event, HAO Jingban will invite Japanese benshi performer, Mr. Kataoka, to “reinterpret” the meaning of these “unwelcome and abandoned” landscapes in live performances. After the performance, HAO Jingban will hold a conversation with Mr. Kataoka, share the thoughts behind the creation with the audience, and discuss history and landscape as well as film language and narrative.

Eisa JOCSON is a contemporary choreographer, dancer, and visual artist based in Manila. And the Filipino Super-KTV-Woman Band is a performance by an all-female trio. Together with the artist’s two co-singers, the performance connects an exploration of migrant labor with formative moments of feminine empowerment through the phenomenon of KTV.

An audience and I sit in a tiny space between two white cloths falling to the ground; meanwhile, outside the cloths stand other audience who can hear the talk inside and see the silhouette, body condition and emotion of the two talkers through the light behind the cloths. The audience inside can ask me a question, and I will answer one hundred percent honestly. Such talk will lead to two kinds of consequence—convinced or irritated by my explicit words.

What we used to think of clowns is that they wear the cheerful makeup with rounded red nose and big upward mouth. They get shaggy wigs on heads and heavy shoes on foot. The job they do seem to make everyone laugh with stunning magic performance. What are clowns symbolized, the happiness or sadness? Funny balloon magic show and performance all come from traditional American style clown actors! It will be a totally different experience from the exhibition.

Li Lingxi graduated at the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Art College from Beijing in 1992, majoring in ballet and classical/ethnic Chinese dance. In 2003, she went to Norway to study ballet and modern dance’s composition, improvisation and choreography. Since the beginning of her career, Li Lingxi has been always experimenting and exploring new ideas for the development of contemporary dance participating also to some important events.
