“I Don’t Know the Mandate of Heaven”, an exhibition of the Chinese artist Song Dong at the age of 50, is inspired by a well-known quote from The Analects of Confucius, “Knowing the mandate of Heaven at the age of 50”, which is also traditionally taken as a motto for life planning, to convey the artist’s ongoing reflections about the art, reality and life in an era of rapid changes.
