Act of listening to noise is a self-contradictory and self-defeating activity because noise is by its definition what you don’t want to hear. However, this apparent contradiction leads us, the listeners, to start to think what is really an act of listening itself just like the case of listening to alleged silence, while when you listen to silence, you’re listening to something you cannot hear.
The participants are encouraged to appreciate the transformation of ordinary objects by applying a new “skin” of materials or techniques through the use of a range of various materials.
My main instrument for the recent years has been the amplified and unamplified turntables with objects. I have no background of DJing or collecting vinyl records. For me, turntable is less a record player than a electro-magnetic pick-up to amplify objects’s vibration or a resonator of certain things without any amplification. When things are amplified (or represented), then they lose their sonic presence; amplifier and speaker take over the presence and the sound gets more objectified.

The lecture will carry out a discussion on how these new worker artists finding their way in developing cultural subjectivity through art; their own interpretations of art.
Inspired by the hybrid images from Bharti Kher’s works, this workshop is designed to inspire children to open up their imagination and creativity, conceiving of new forms of life melding animal and human forms, and then granting them life and meaning through story-telling or other means.
The program extends the cultural dualism within the artworks of Bharti Kher as a starting point towards a larger discussion about the changes in visual images of life forms from a Chinese taxonomy originating in the radicals of Chinese characters to the introduction of Western binomial nomenclature. With this particular model of Chinese classification, we can observe the regenerative capabilities of legends in the contemporary Chinese language.

How should we imagine India as a land, a country and a nation in other terms than geographic and political ones that have been reiterated in textbooks and mass media? How is the idea of India challenged and exceeded by the practice of artists, curators and writers both inside and outside India?
