Taking book A History of Exhibitions-Shanghai 1979-2006, an archive of an artist-organised exhibitions in Shanghai, talk will look at the early artists organized exhibitions in Shanghai during 1980’s and importance of artists friendship and solidarity in times when there was no art infrastructure or so called institutionalization of friendship that was of great importance for many local contexts. Chen Zhen among few other artists is considered to be one of the key figures contributing to early development contemporary art in Shanghai and China with his involvement and exchange that will have special focus within the talk.
Biljana Ciric is an independent curator. Her project Migration Addicts was presented in the Collateral Events program of the 52nd Venetian Biennale in 2007, and at the Biennale of Urbanism and Architecture in Shenzhen/Hong Kong in 2008. In 2013, Ciric initiated the seminar platform From a History of Exhibitions towards a Future of Exhibition Making.
