Rockbund Art Museum will launch the "Urban creativity" as the theme of the activities series, taking "urban" as a unit, "creativity" as the core conception, involving architecture, design, cultural heritage and many other issues through the introduction to the topics of those fields that we should pay more attention to in terms of the initiation, development, characterization of multi-dimension throughout the aspects of city development.
Rockbund Art Museum associates with AIVA Birmingham Institute of art and design to plan series events of contemporary jewellery as one part of the project.
The discussion aims to introduce the overall background of contemporary jewellery art, including the process of revival of crafts art, the connection between the concept and practice of contemporary jewellery and other art and design fields, contemporary jewellery ideology, and how to interact with the audience and artists’ practice.
About the Panelist
Owner of Ubi Gallery(Beijing).Ubi Gallery is founded by Machtelt Schelling. She comes from the Netherlands and grew up in a family with a passion for music, art and jewellery. Educated in art-history, media and education, Machtelt is an expert in connecting people with arts and culture. She started in China as a diplomat for the Dutch Embassy in Beijing, as the head of the Press & Cultural department and she has been a crucial link in the art and design exchange between China and the Netherlands for 5 years. In the autumn of 2012 she realised the establishment of Ubi Gallery.
Alice Bo-Wen Chang
A jewellery artist, a designer and an architect. She had completed her Master of Architecture at Princeton University, USA in 2006, and worked as an architect in New York City before pursuing her degree in jewellery. She received another Masters degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing from Edinburgh University / Edinburgh College of Art with distinction in 2011, and has been exhibiting internationally ever since, including Galerie Marzee in Netherlands, SOFA New York with Charon Kransen Arts, Lesley Craze Gallery in London, and Ubi Gallery in Beijing. Alice is now Course Director of AIVA Academy of International Visual Arts in Shanghai, China.
Received her MA and MFA degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, USA. She majored in Jewelry and Metals, minored in ceramics. Her works have been exhibited both nationally and internationally and have received multiple awards. She is currently running the jewelry and metals studio at the College of Fine Arts of Shanghai University. She is also the curator and co-owner of the well-known contemporary crafts gallery --“twocities gallery” in Shanghai, the vice director for the Jewelry Design committee of Gems & Jewelry Trade Association of China, member of the Metals Art Committee of Chinese Arts and Crafts Association，the executive director of the Shanghai Industrial Designers Association and responsible for the development of the Contemporary jewelry .
