  • About the talk

Felix Gonzalez-Torres’s interest in social and political causes may have informed the overlap of private and public life that can be found in his work. From 1987 to 1991, he was part of Group Material, a New York-based art collective whose members worked collaboratively to initiate community education and cultural activism. In the talk, Professor Ute Meta Bauer, together with the curators, Larys Frogier and Li Qi, will look into the background of the works of Gonzalez-Torres and the social contexts in the U.S. between the 1980s and 1990s, to unravel new possibilities for the interpretation of his artworks.
