RAM x NCAF: Suchang's Sculptural Adventures
Jul 30, 2016 Saturday 19:30 - 21:00
2F, Rockbund Art Museum (Shanghai 20 Huqiu Road)
Can an object made by hands become the record of a moment, the depiction of an emotion, the portrait of a city or a way of studying images and aesthetics? This is perhaps what Su Chang does in his sculpture creation. Su Chang was born and brought up and also has been working in Songjiang, a famous historic town in Shanghai. In China’s fast developing contemporary art context, Su Chang deliberately slows the pace with his retrospect to the past, and he didn’t hold his first solo exhibition until the year 2015 when he reached the age of thirty. During a decade before that, Su Tong spontaneously organized several “wild” group exhibitions with his classmates and friends, which now seem like a miniature history of exhibition self-organized by young artists of Shanghai. This case study will invite Su Chang to talk about his recent creation and to summarize his creation concepts in the past ten years. As Su Chang’s comrade in “wild exhibition age”, Gao Mingyan will share with the audience local young artists’ organizational practice in pre-gallery age.
Free admission, reservation is required.
