【RAM Talk】The Ideas behind Heman Chong’s Creation
Mar 5, 2016 Saturday 19:30 - 21:00
2F, Rockbund Art Museum (Shanghai 20 Huqiu Road)
Exhibition “Ifs, Ands, or Buts”, as a way to explore the inner workings of special systems and the world, starts a discussion about the origin of knowledge carriers. Science fiction is created to help people escape reality and search new laws to regulate us. The texts in Legal Bookshop, an installation in the exhibition, are the laws people have found to shun away from the reality. They assume the similar role as science fiction. The artist attempts to explore the source of knowledge in contemporary world from these not eye-catching “science fiction books” at the bookstore. The course of the exhibition is like solving a case. This talk will use "Art-Fiction", a concept proposed by philosopher Francois Laruelle, to analyze and develop the ideas behind the creation of the exhibition and explore the future of art as new knowledge and new practices.
