Live @ RAM – Artist in Residency
Dec 13, 2016 Tuesday 17:15 - 18:00
Rockbund Art Museum (Shanghai 20 Huqiu Road, Huangpu District)
HUANG Fangling, together with members of her drama concept studio a.f.art theatreFangling, has been selected as the artist-in-residence in the third Live @ RAM program held by the Rockbund Art Museum (RAM) this year. Her art project, the Sensory Tour, will be rolled out at RAM from December 5 to 13, 2016. Impromptu and spontaneous performance will be carried out everyday at 15:00 during this period. The result will be presented to the public on the 9th, 10th and 13th of December.
This ten-day residency project will not only interact, through the approach of performance art, with RAM’s ongoing solo exhibition of the influential American artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres, but also closely adapt to the unique space of the Museum’s architecture. The Sensory Tour, a brand new work of performance art directed by HUANG Fangling, will present delicately designed on-site theatrical performance and live activities, through which the audience will be “guided” across the space. After fully concentrating on or enveloped by the space of the Museum, the audience can get their very own understanding and perception of the exhibited art works.
HUANG Fangling and specialists of architecture and sound will jointly design, based on their thorough study on the space and history of the Museum as well as the auditory connection between the architecture and the exhibited art pieces, a “visual route” and an “auditory route” for various human organisms (namely the audience and the RAM staff) to travel across the Museum’s space. By taking advantage of the unique functions of actors in theatrical performances, Huang will motivate the audience to ponder over the topics and relationships spurred by these art pieces. For instance, the mirrors will provoke thoughts over the relationship between an individual and a group, as well as over the architectural space; bulbs – the relationship between light and edges; candies – people’s feelings and sharing; the clocks on the wall – the passage of time… When enjoying the Sensory Tour, the audience will be invited to involve visually, auditorily and even tactilely to activate their thoughts over both public and private issues. A full combination of theatrical performance and exhibition, the Sensory Tour welcomes your very own performance to reproduce the integration and conflicts implied in the exhibited art works.
Free admission, reservation is required.
