Paris-based French artist Sophie Curtil, together with her artist husband Milos Cvach (born in Czech), will introduce us their work: How to introduce art works to children? This is a simple but challenging project.
L’Art en Jeu is a children’s book collection project at Center Pompidou, Paris, which was created and hosted by Sophie Curtil. Mr. Cvach took the role as creative director for many of the books in the collection. It is especially worthy to mention the art book, L’art par 4 Chemins, which they co-authored and published for the kids.
Open this creative book, you will feel like wandering in between diverse art works, i.e. paintings, sculptures, monuments, architectures, installations, photography…. Yet all of those quasi-irrelevant works have been re-categorized by the author according to principles such as Four Grand Artistic Sensibilities, Four Grand Geographic Locations, Four Symbolic Colors and etc.
Based on visual sense, this children book encourages kids to observe, to compare, to mix up and to appreciate art works. It invites kids to linger on the details of art works, to follow the movement of lines, to appreciate the harmony of colors and the balance of forms. Instead of attempting to interpret the art works, it just let us to “Look”.
