Urban Creativity: A Discussion on Contemporary Jewellery Part II

Rockbund Art Museum will launch the "Urban creativity" as the theme of the activities series, taking "urban" as a unit, "creativity" as the core conception, involving architecture, design, cultural heritage and many other issues through the introduction to the topics of those fields that we should pay more attention to in terms of the initiation, development, characterization of multi-dimension throughout the aspects of city development.
Rockbund Art Museum associates with AIVA Birmingham Institute of art and design to plan series events of contemporary jewellery as one part of the project.
The discussion aims to introduce the overall background of contemporary jewellery art, including the process of revival of crafts art, the connection between the concept and practice of contemporary jewellery and other art and design fields, contemporary jewellery ideology, and how to interact with the audience and artists’ practice.
Jiang Jiehong is a curator and the founder of the Center for Chinese Visual Arts in Birmingham City University. He is now the professor of Chinese Art and Director of Centre for Chinese Visual Arts. Jiang delivers the annual short course as visiting professor at many art institutions across China such as China Academy of Art and Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University.
Jiang’s newly Chinese contemporary art exhibitions include Sight Spot (Beijing, 2007), Collective Representations (Manchester and Hong Kong, 2007), the Beauty of Lost (Shanghai, 2008) and the Myth of Angel (London, 2009). Meanwhile, his has published the book Burden or Legacy: From the Chinese Cultural Revolution to Contemporary Art (Hong Kong, 2007), The Revolution Continues: New Art from China (London, 2008) and Red: China’s Cultural Revolution (London, 2010).
Jewellery artist Liu Xiao is currently lecturing at CAFA Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, China. He has earned his BA and MA in Jewellery Design at CAFA Central Academy of Fine Art, and another MA in Jewellery, Silversmithing and Related Products at Birmingham City University School of Jewellery, UK. His works have been exhibited in many countries including Australia, Netherlands, Germany, UK, Spain, Japan, Thailand and Taiwan. He was the only Chinese artist selected for the 64th International Contemporary Jewellery Exhibition Schmuck 2012 in Munich, Germany, and won the Overall Award at Enjoia’t, the Contemporary Jewellery Art Fair in Spain.
