The tradition of lighting up lanterns on the Lantern Festival, namely on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar year in the lunar calendar, dates back to Han Dynasty. By Tang Dynasty, lantern-watching became even more popular. Lanterns were hung up in palace as well as streets. Besides, tall lantern wheels, lantern towers and lantern trees would also be set up. In contemporary art, a number of artists have made classic art works out of lights and shadows—the most splendid raw materials. On this very special Chinese traditional festival, let us make a piece of light and shadow art work of our own.
Free admission, reservation is required.
