RAM Kids Workshop: Entrance to a Fantasy World
Jul 30, 2017 Sunday 10:30 - 12:00
Rockbund Art Museum (Shanghai 20 Huqiu Road, Huang Pu District)
Walking into the exhibition “Philippe Parreno: Synchronicity”, you will see a seemingly ordinary bookshelf. Push the shelf open and a wonderland will unfold in front of you. The fantasy literature brings us into an imaginary world, starting adventurous but happy journeys. Close your eyes and you can still feel the charm of distinctive sceneries and fantastic characters: Alice followed a talking rabbit down the hole beneath a tree; Lucy hid into the closet and discovered the world of Narnia with forests and snow; Harry Potter rushed through the Platform Nine and Three Quarters with his luggage; Mr. Wonka opened the door of the chocolate factory with his keys… How will you design the entrance to your fantasy world? Before entering the wonderland with the characters, let’s see how the authors build suspense to arouse our curiosity.
Children are encouraged to bring to the workshop a copy of the description of an entrance to a fantasy world from the children literature books they like. Following a guided tour through the exhibition, they will be asked to share the book extract they choose under the guidance of a teacher, to learn how suspense is built in storytelling. Finally, they will be invited to create artworks to present the entrance to their fantasy worlds.
