Texture can be an effective way to delineate space and create forms, as well as play with color and perception. Paola Pivi’s texture paintings are made up of multiples of objects such as beads and ribbons. Placed closely together they create Modernist images that catch the eye through the simple color surfaces they create. Bridget Riley and Jasper Johns are two artists that addressed similar Modernist concerns through paint. We will make our own versions of these paintings using various materials.
