Presently, experimental music is a genre that has not yet quite found its place in Vietnam in generally and in Hanoi in particularly. However, experimental music was started in Hanoi since 1996. But back to before, the musical education system was from Soviet Union so the lecturers only taught the Western classical music, up to the very beginning of the 20th century. There was nothing about music of the 20th century to the rest so the musicians did not know exactly what type of music they were working on at that time. There were many difficulties which the artists had to face during that time. They were considered to be those who do not know anything about music and playing the crazy things though they were educated in Academy, in different major. But they passed all and focus on working to give out their works very strongly. Their works were commissioned and presented by many famous festivals and theatres in the world. Thanks to this first generation, experimental music scene was slowly forming. Since 2012, the first contemporary experimental center in Hanoi has founded and operated by a female composer/musician so the second generation in contemporary music was starting to forming.
