    One Person show or solo performance means the same thing in English. However, in China these concepts are defined strictly different in Chinese: “one person show” means only one person performs everything in the show. Under this definition, talk show, stand-up comedy, and concert are not one person show but solo performance. One Person show has been highly regarded in Western theatre that only those who had been working in the field for decades dare to dabble into. For the most part, these people are working as the play writer, director, actor or actress and stage and costume designer at the same time. In London’s West End, there are more than ten one person shows produced each year and some of them turned out to be the candidates or winners of Tony Awards or the Pulitzer Prize for Drama of the year. In China, or more specifically, in Shanghai, there are averagely one original one person show produced every two years, and one introduced from overseas every year. The statistics proved that we do not have sufficient talents and experience in this field. One person show is a comprehensive evaluation and concentrated presentation of the actors’ or actresses’ stage experience and creativity.
