Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller
Born in Brussels (Canada) in 1957; born in Vegreville (Canada) in 1960. Live and work in Grindrod (Canada).
The work of the Canadian artists Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller consists in deviating the spectator's vision and interpretation. The visitor is a marionette in the artists' hands; they govern their movements and emotions. Nevertheless the use of technology is neither cold nor spectacular: the artists use multimedia devices not to attract the spectator, but to create an atmosphere of intimacy, arousing strong emotions that seep into everyone's sensory memory. Through the three-dimensional nature of sound, spectators are guided in these sound and audiovisual “walk” through different places and atmospheres. They shape visual experience by drawing from other forms of perception, creating complex and total works of art.
