Filed Recordings (Li Xiaofei, Jim Speers, Clinton Watkins, Tracey Guo, and Tu Neill)
Formed in 2016, with the support of Assembly Line Project Studio (ALPS), University of Auckland and Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, Shanghai University, the Chinese-Zelanian artist group Field Recordings is dedicated to presenting the dynamics of the Shanghai cityscape from the perspective of water and from recording conversations.
The artist group includes as members:
Li Xiaofei was born in 1973 in Hunan. Having studied at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, he now lives and works in Shanghai.
Jim Speers is a sculptor and documentary filmmaker. He was born in Zambia in 1970 and is now living in New Zealand. He works at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland.
Clinton Watkins was born in 1976 in New Zealand, and obtained a doctoral degree from Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland. Now he lectures in experimental time-based media and is the Programme Leader of the Bachelor of Creative Technologies degree at AUT.
Zixuan Guo was born in 1988 in Hebei, China, studied at Elam School of Fine Arts, and now lives and works in Auckland, New Zealand. Guo holds a Master Degree from Elam School of Fine Arts.
Tu Neill graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2006. Since then he has worked in media across a number of platforms.
