Huang Yong Ping
Born in 1954 in Xiamen, Fujian province. In 1982 he graduated from oil painting department of the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts. He lives and works in Pairs France since 1989.
Huang’s diverse practice explores ideas of cultural difference, identity, migration, colonialism and history as well as institutional critique. Huang Yong Ping is arguably one of China’s pre-eminent contemporary artists, and this first retrospective dedicated to his career from 1985 to the present combines irony with humor, politics with spirit-uality.
